Cait started swimming for her local swim team when she was eight years old, and competed for a US swim team for several years prior to high school. She entered her first triathlon at thirteen, after seeing several videos of the Hawaii Ironman, including the Julie Moss crawl. She won her first race (Worcester Youth Triathlon) in flannel shorts and on her mother’s bike. In the years that followed, she joined her high school swim and track teams, captaining both during her junior and senior years. Throughout high school Cait raced frequently, consistently winning her age-group. During her sophomore year in college she began taking her training and racing much more seriously.
In 2002 Cait qualified for the Cancun ITU World Championships in the 20-24 age group. The following year she qualified for the New Zealand World Championships in the U23 elite division, and was invited to train and race for USAT’s development team. Through this program, Cait worked with world-class coaches, nutritionists, and sports specialists, training alongside past and future Olympians. As a member of this development team, Cait raced in Portugal, Puerto Rico, Canada, Arizona, California, Washington, Arkansas, Michigan, and New York, under the Olympic format.
After taking the 2006 season off for knee surgery, Cait made her comeback in 2007 by winning Hyannis Half Marathon (1:26:19), Cohasset 10K (36:13), Sudbury Sprint, Mooseman Half Iron, and Timberman Sprint. She also competed in her first two Ironman events, placing 12th at Lake Placid and 14th at Florida. Cait credits QT2’s approach to training and overall race preparation for her successes during her post-surgery return to racing.
In preparation for the 2008 season, Cait has diligently followed the QT2 program, and seen some early season success. After training hard through the winter, and working on body composition under the guidance of coach Jesse, Cait placed 12th at California 70.3, before going undefeated (and posting the fastest run split for women) at Devilman Half Iron, Mooseman Half Iron, KIC IT olympic, and Ironman Lake Placid. She plans to continue her season with Timberman Sprint, Pumpkinman Half Iron, Buzzard’s Bay Sprint, and Hawaii Ironman World Championship.
To satisfy a desire to help others feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with achieving one’s goals, Cait began working as a USAT-certified coach with QT2 in 2007. To this end, Cait hopes to use her years of racing and training experience, along with the QT2 training protocols, to help others achieve their athletic potential. As a former assistant swim coach with a U.S. swim team, Cait offers an expertise in swim stroke efficiency.
Aside from training, racing, and coaching Cait is working on her master’s degree, and lives with her husband Tim, and their two dogs Jake and Drew.
