Team Training Weekend
Jun 29th, 2009 : 08:43pm
4 days, 26 people, 2 houses, 13 hours in the saddle, 35+ miles running, a two-mile open water TT, 2 massage therapists, my little sister, too many gels to count, a 6-foot sub, and a flying beer can, all in scenic Vermont – now that’s a training weekend!!Thursday we moved into our temporary residence, began the training with a solid 5k, and wrapped up the evening with… PIZZA! I love carbing up for the long days!

The Masterminds of the Weekend at Work
Friday was an easy swim in the lake, a solid 7-hour ride, and a 30-minute easy run. Mikaela “sagged” the ride, stopping every 20 miles with a car full of PowerBar Endurance, PowerGels, and PowerBar Endurance bars, keeping track of everyone (23 athletes can get pretty spread out over 7 hours!), and even sharing her crackers when some of us couldn’t take anymore aluminum-wrapped goodies.

Pee Break!
After my run, she and I headed over to Subway to pick-up dinner. It was just the two of us, and we had an SUV, but that sub was not going easily! We had to put the back seats down to fit it in the car – seriously!

Holy Shnikies!
Saturday morning we hit the lake for the big 2-mile TT. With Mikaela a quarter-mile out in a paddle boat, 23 of us clustered together by the starting buoy. On Jesse’s “Go!” we pummeled each other through four loops of faulty sighting and questionable lines. Next time Mikaela wears neon!

The Human Buoy
After a recovery ride, a steady run, and some totally-sweet massages, we walked over to Pot Belly’s for dinner. It was so fun to see everyone in civilian attire!

Where'd all the spandex go??
We “put the nail in the coffin”, as Jesse would say, Sunday with a recovery ride and 2.5 hour run. I was pretty nervous before we got started, but it was awesome! It was hilly and tough, but the pace was quick and the company great. I’m not much of a talker when it comes to running, or training in general – luckily, neither were the guys I was with. Jesse likes to throw out random comments here and there, but otherwise we just kept pushing along. Everyone finished up by the lake and hung out for a bit before we needed to pack up and head home.

Sweaty Hug for the Little One
That was so much fun! It was a great way to wrap up the heavy LP training. Taper time! 27 days to race day!

Sounds like a great weekend of training and team camaraderie!
All the best in the final weeks/days to LP!
