Oh, the pain!

Today I spent 26:17 in a hot, loud, painful place. I believe they call it Hell? Oh, no, my mistake! It was the Computrainer TT at Fast Splits. Sorry about that – I always mix those two up!
The heat to which I was assigned, the “divorce court” heat, was a set of 5 married couples, in which each individual rode right next to his/her partner in crime. The women got a 2:39 head start on the men as this was the average difference between the men and women at last year’s event. I went out hard. REAL HARD! By the time the guys started I was looking for a clear spot to puke. Somehow I made it through the first half before my eyes started to cross. Meanwhile, this chick riding in front of me just kept creeping further ahead of the women’s field, and, I swear I heard her, she was singing along to the Guns N’ Roses laden soundtrack! Tim and I ended up dueling it out (remember, I had a 2:39 lead off) with him sneaking in one second ahead, but were both beat by the Kropelnicki duet. The female winner of our heat was Ms. Christine Kroplenicki (the one singing). Ever heard of her? Well now you have! She took forth place for the whole day (a field including Karen Smyers and Dede Griesbauer) in only her second year on a non-Huffy bike! Woop woop!!
Mystic River movie full We wrapped up the day (and the base phase) with the first transition run of the year. The weather was finally nice enough to run in shorts so that was totally sweet, and I was all hyped up on 175 mg of caffeine so I talked poor Chrissy’s ear off. Luckily it was only a half hour, so she escaped the random ramblings relatively unscathed.

Although we’ve done a couple little races here and there, it really feels like the season is finally getting underway. We no longer have more than 4 weeks between races ( I know the schedule looks sparse to some, but we’ve got a plan) and we begin to incorporate intensity into the training this week. I’m pumped!
